Best Homemade Lip Masks for Dry and Dehydrated Lips

Soft and pink lips are something we all desire, it is a sign that your lips are healthy and it also improves your appearance. Chapped and dry lips are undesirable and a concern to many. While you must keep a lip balm handy to heal dry lips, they may not work wonders in the long run. But with simple home remedies, you can easily create your own lip masks that can treat dry and chapped lips.

But before we get started, many of you must be wondering, are lip masks actually a thing? Well, we assure you that they indeed are. Lip Masks are a simple and fun way to keep your lips soft and smooth.

Here are some DIY lip masks that you can make at home easily with easily available ingredients.

Hydrating lip masks

Dry and chapped lips are a common thing when you are not maintaining your body’s hydration level. This happens especially during cold months. In some cases, if you are using a lip balm, it may be the cause of dry and chapped lips. Here are some hydrating lip masks that will treat your dry and dehydrated lips.

1. Honey and coconut oil: For this mask, you need to soften the hard coconut oil. Either microwave it for a few seconds or preheat it before mixing it with honey. Take 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, mix them well, and apply to your lips whenever you feel like. This mixture will keep your lips hydrated and it will make sure you get rid of chapped lips.

2. Honey and avocado: It is just similar to the previous one, but instead of coconut oil, we will be using avocado (which is full of vitamins and minerals), that hydrates your lips. For this, mash a ripe avocado and take two spoons of it, mix it with 1 teaspoon of honey and apply it on your lips. This mask also treats smoker’s lines on your lips.

3. Honey and cucumber: Cucumbers are full of water and antioxidants, making it one of the best ingredients in hydrating lip masks. For this, grate a cucumber (make sure to peel it first), take two teaspoons of it and mix it with one teaspoon of honey. Apply this mixture on your lips.

Note: Try to grate the cucumber from its sides to avoid chunky seeds in your mask.

Exfoliating lip masks

Dry lips can lead to flaky skin on the lips. And that flaky skin is actually made up of dead skin cells. The only way to get rid of those yucky dead skin cells is to exfoliate them. Here are some tips.

1. Yogurt and kiwi: Yogurt is rich in lactic acid which helps peel away old and dead skin cells so that newer and brighter lip skin can shine through. For this, take two teaspoons of Greek yogurt and one teaspoon of muddled kiwi. Mix and scrub gently on your lips.

2. Yogurt and lemon: This lip mask is a bit stronger than the others mentioned above. Reason? Because it contains both lactic acid (yogurt) and citric acid (lemon). Take two teaspoons of Greek yogurt and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix and gently exfoliate your lips.

3. Olive oil and brown sugar: This lip mask is a gentle and all-natural exfoliator. Olive oil provides moisture and brown sugar gently brushes away the dry and dead skin. Mix two teaspoons of olive oil and one teaspoon of brown sugar, apply on your lips, and gently scrub it. Leave it for 5 minutes before wiping it off.

4. Aloe vera and raw sugar: This lip mask gets rid of dead lip skin and provides tons of minerals and vitamins. For this, you need to mix two teaspoons of aloe vera gel and one teaspoon of raw sugar. Just like olive oil and brown sugar lip mask, scrub it for a few minutes before washing it off.

5. Coconut oil and raw sugar: This lip mask provides moisture and on top of that gets rid of dead skin cells. For this, mix one teaspoon of coconut oil (melted) and one teaspoon of raw sugar. Gently scrub this mixture on your skin to get all its goodness.

Note: If you have super dry or sensitive lips, you should stick to the hydrating lips masks.
